Council unveils new plans to transform Deception Bay waterfront

Moreton Bay Regional Council will unveil exciting new plans to transform a 12,256sqm waterfront site at Deception Bay into a new recreation, environmental and community precinct for locals.

Councillor for Division Two, Peter Flannery said plans for the former Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries research centre located at the intersection of Joseph Crescent and Beach Street will go on public display this month, starting with a Community Information Day on 14 October.

“Artists impressions will be on display at the Deception Bay library showing locals what this site could look like into the future thanks to an exciting new master plan from council,” Cr Flannery said.

“The draft master plan will guide council’s planning, design and construction over the coming years to help transform this site into a beautiful new waterfront location in Deception Bay for all local residents to enjoy.

“Council purchased the former DPI site with this vision in mind of creating a new space in Deception Bay for families to relax and unwind, with exciting new play elements for children and pathways to encourage locals to get out and enjoy the foreshore area.”

Cr Flannery said the project would be staged and draft plans would be available for viewing including grassed open spaces perfect for picnicking and hanging out with the family, a circuit pathway ideal for walking the dog or simply getting out and enjoying the foreshore, new trees and a playground for the kids, wooden decking, and a potential future boardwalk.

“Other concepts include a modest sized multi-purpose meeting space with cultural, indigenous and environmental displays, a possible kiosk or café with seating as well as a new off-street car park.

“The design capitalises on the stunning outlook across the mangroves and sea bath area at Deception Bay to create a new recreation space for the local community.”

The plans will be on display at the Deception Bay library (located at 9 Bayview Terrace, Deception Bay) between 9.00am and 12.00pm on 14 October and for a week thereafter.
